Ensure there is free and clear access to the major components of the house such as the furnace, hot water tank, main electrical or any sub panel, main water service, etc:
Make sure that all computers and electronic equipment are logged off. The inspector may shut down all power to the residence in order to safely remove the electrical panel cover(s);
Make sure that all services are on including water, gas and power, so the inspector can easily operate the equipment;
Storage items and materials are pulled away from the foundation walls so the inspector can view a substantial percentage of them:
Access to the attics or crawl spaces are unlocked, have been freed of tape seals, wheatherstripping, or if they are painted shut, take the time to cut the seal. The home inspector will need access to these areas:
Have any applicable documentation (such as a transferable roof warranty) available for the inspectors review, to help assess the life expectancy of the major components;
Keep young children and pets out of harms way;
Don't hide or conceal anything. The inspector is looking out for your best interest to assess the components of the home;
